Hear a Mule

Jay Lapp of The Steel Wheels finds some sweet tones inside his steel Mule for a sold out show at The Ark in Ann Arbor. A beautiful example how these guitars aren’t just a blues machine, but can be essential layer in a song.

Oliver and I have made our pallets on the same floor, ridden 500 miles on bicycles while he tries not to die of a hernia (possible?), discussed long about whisky and football and I’ve watched in amazement at his musical awesome and am proud to call him a dear friend. I hesitate to say The Stray Birds are my favorite band of all time, because that’s hyperbole and you may think I don’t mean it. But I totally do. NPR put them on their top ten albums of the year.  All I can say is when I listen to them live, they can actually turn my musical brain off and I can be free to love every part of what they do. John Calkin was kind enough to let me borrow his guitar for a bit longer so Oliver could play it. It sang so sweet in his hands, and will be one of my favorite memories. http://www.thestraybirds.com
